Aia La Fillole, a 33 year old independent archaeologist, stands 5'6", but, being scientifically minded, would prefer 167cm. Her golden-brown eyes are only slightly darker than her tanned skin, which has been regularly exposed to the sun for virtually her entire life.

[edit] Science!

Since childhood Aia has always taken an interest in old things, dusty and forgotten, but not without significance. The step up to archaeology was only natural. To Aia, the accomplishments of our race in ages past are things to be marveled, and even envied. "Those civilizations understood the rewards of hard work and excellent craftsmanship," Aia asserts, "which modern technology attempts to replace with impersonal cookie-cutter gewgaw."

The realization of magic in the world has done nothing but further this opinion. Being of a scientific bent, Aia has recorded many of her experiments with the force of magic, which she calls "Ether" after the substance which, in the late 1800s and early 1900s, was believed to be responsible for carrying light through space. As part of the conclusion of one such experiment, Aia wrote the following:

I don't want to say that Ether is sentient, but it is at least aware of human expression, and it will cluster around these expressions so powerfully – so purposefully – that with a thought it can be made to react to that expression.

Since then Aia has pushed herself further into the study of techniques used by older civilizations and applying them to her own work. These techniques, used as a focus for Ether, have provided the most reliable results she’s recorded, leading her to build a few multi-purpose tools for her everyday life.

[edit] Tools

  • A pair of thick-paper wings held together with wood and metal, decorated in key places with colored crystal. Worn by a sort of harness, wires run from the wings, through rings on the harness, to handles. Clips for holding these handles are placed on various places on pants, shirt, and other articles of clothing. Ether, drawn to the fine-cut crystals especially, will propel the wearer. The handles are manipulated for maneuvering, controlling speed, etc.
  • A simple tattoo on Aia's left shoulder is part of an experiment to attract Ether to herself. The tattoo can be temporarily altered with a marker or pen in order to vary the effects. Slowing an otherwise dangerous descent and warding off extreme temperatures are only a couple possible uses.
