Angry God

From Telkoth.net

I'm in San Jose, visiting my mom's side of the family. Last night was my second night here, and during that night I had three dream... segment... things. Some longer than others.

[edit] The School Dream

This one took place at a high school of some kind. None I'm familiar with in real life, but in the dream I was a student. My friends and I (again, friends with which I am not familiar in real life, but was in the dream) had some kind of plan to cause trouble: we found an electrical box of some kind and hacked in to the PA system and made an announcement that everyone could go home, or something to that effect. We knew that it didn't sound official, but students didn't care. They started to leave with the excuse that "the PA said we could" even though they knew it wasn't real. When the student/teacher ratio is 30 to 1, there's not a lot that can be done to maintain order, and soon everyone was gone.

Except for my friends and I. I think we were trying to remove evidence of who it was - disconnect the tap, etc. For whatever reason I was left behind with some other girl. We were in the basement of the school, which looked more like the basement of a house - the kind where there aren't any walls and you can just see the wooden structure. Anyway, we closed the door and pressed against the wall so that when the administrators came by and looked in the glass window in the door, they wouldn't see us. They went over the building multiple times, however, and each time became more convinced that we must be in the basement room, which they had not been able to directly explore. They started to find different ways to look into the basement, so we had to find better places to hide. Eventually we found a tiny closet to hide in, and that was kind of exciting [ahem, cough], but then I was on to the next dream.

[edit] Angry God

This dream was much more strange. Initially I was helping create some kind of new game. The part we were working on was where you fight this god who's stuck in some ancient ruin. Getting into the ruins is a difficult process: you start off with a top-down view of a long, long, cylindrical hole which drops straight into the ground. Your character is falling down the hole, but you can slowly direct him using the arrow keys, or joypad, or whatever we were using.

After an amount of falling you'd come to an area where a section of the hole opens up - like a large, short cylinder in the middle of this small, tall one. So if you directed the character toward a wall, then you could avoid falling further by landing on this open area. If you pressed a key at just the right time you could avoid taking damage from the fall by rolling. In this area there were some fallen bricks, cobwebs, and other things you find in ruins. Old, dirt-covered vases... there were also a couple healing ball things. They were the size of baseballs, maybe, but made of a thin glass, and giving off a faint, blue light.

That was all there was to this area. After breaking open all the vases and finding little or nothing, you'd have to jump back in to the hole in the middle.

Before hitting the very bottom, you had the opportunity to land in another one of these openings. This one had a couple minor enemies - some kind of shambling, zombie-like things.

But the final area was the big boss area. This was a large, rectangular room, several stories tall, with a large, rectangular structure in the middle. I'd say there was a good 12 feet or so between the structure in the middle and the wall of the room it was in. There was also a ledge that was cut into the wall around it. The idea was that your chararcter could barely make the jump from the ledge on the outside to the building on the inside.

I'm a little ahead of myself, though. I remember seeing the intial drop through the hole several times, but I never saw the boss chamber until I played it myself, but once that happened I was the character in the game. So I was running around, trying to defeat the god. Fortunately I already had a pretty good idea of how to do so.

There were a couple rooms around the top of the boss area. There were also, placed around the whole area, various red gem things mounted in the ceilings. Emenating from these were red beams which swept the floor, but you couldn't see the beams directly, only their faint reflection on the floor - a laser. The god was certainly aware of you presence here, but unless the lasers caught you, he wouldn't know exactly where you were, so you had avoid the laser sweeps in order to avoid his attacks.

Also, while the top level of the center structure was the God's shrine - carved of decorated stone, and where you could hurt him - the lower levels held other things. A level or two below housed the God's family, which was somehow still alive, though they did not seem to be aware of what was going on outside the house. The house was almost a maze of connected rooms, built of wooden walls where the tops were a thin grid of wood... I don't know quite how to explain it, but I know I've seen this before... the bottom, let's say 3/4 was solid, and the top was like lots of small, square windows, maybe 2x2ft, but without the glass. And sliding doors, Japanese-style.

Anyway, I remember at one point running around through the family's house, trying to avoid them noticing my presence, since the man of the house - the God - would certainly be notified. There were a few minor treasures to collect, but mostly you landed in the house only as punshiment for not jumping quite far enough in order to land on the floor above - the God's shrine. If you fell all the way to the bottom you were in 2 or 3 inches of slowly-running water amongst large fallen bricks and a couple of those zombie things. Somehow or another you could manage to get back up to the upper floors and continue trying to defeat the God.

As I said, level with the top of the inner buliding, a large walkway and rooms were carved into the wall. Mostly these rooms seemed pointless, containg walkways which wound around things which didn't look important at all. One of these roomed contained an infinite stash of the healing balls I described before, as well as some red glass balls, and other colors. The red and blue ones were the most interesting to me, as these were fire attacks and healing respectively. Within this room was a woman who would kind of talk to you, and didn't mind you taking the glass balls at all. So I would take a couple red ones at a time (you could only carry a limited number), jump into one of the God's shrine's rooms, and throw the fire balls at one of the important artifacts in the room, damaging the God.

Something I was not aware of about the game (which was less like a game at this point, and more like real-life... in a dream, but you know) was the purpose of the woman in the room with all the fire balls. Since it had so many of the glass balls, it was one of the rooms which you often found yourself in. It was relatively safe from the sleeping lasers, so you could talk to the woman safely. But she was a trap! You'd talk to her, and she was a very nice woman, and attractive besides... she was also an object of the God's desire, and if she came to like you too much, he would find out, and get pissed. These things all happened.

Two things happened as a result. First, the part of the God's shrine which was easier to get to became blocked by some kind of magical force field, making your job as the player more difficult. Secondly, the God took out his anger on the woman. I somewhat remember playing this part - the part of the woman - as well. The God was chasing her, somehow, and she was running, holding some kind of evidence of her affection for me. She went into one of the pointless-seeming rooms - one with a large double-door, which swung out, and which was pitch-dark inside. Once she hopped inside, the doors started to close again, and she knew it would be bad to jump out, but the God's awareness had already passed by the doorway, so she leapt back out again, just before the doors would have closed her in. The God, however, saw her anyway, and when the "camera" returned to my point of view, you could only hear her screaming. Suffice to say, she was never at the glass ball storage room thing again.

There were several other events which could be triggered here. One created an image of the God while he was alive - an old guy. I don't remember what triggered it, but it was in another of those pointless-seeming rooms. Anyway, at this time he would approach you, and talk menacingly. He also grabbed some bit of metal from a railing in the room, tore it off the wall, and pointed out that this was just one of a few ways which he could beat you senseless while you could do nothing, since this image of him was an image only. But, he went on, he wasn't going to do that, because it wouldn't be sporting.

At this I kind of had a blur of several different courses that I could take. On one hand, I could challenge him by pointing out that I wasn't being very sporting, because I helped make this game, and knew how to defeat him. Once he was convinced that this was true, he flew into a rage and destroyed everything. Another possibility I saw was that I said nothing, and continued to jump around and throw red glass balls at vulnerable spots in the temple.

What happened after that I don't remember, but I do remember playing another aspect of this game. Before or after the fight with the God, I don't remember, but this time I wasn't playing the main character - I was following him around on the island where the God's ruined temple was located. There were apparently several other things to do on this island, and the guy I was following had discovered one of them, and insisted I come along with him. We went around the beach of the island until we came to a point where a cliff extended out into the water slightly, and in order to avoid falling into the water (I'm sure there was an in-game reason for carefully avoiding the water even if it was only a foot deep) we had to climb around the cliff wall.

Once we got around there was a small cove with a large, metal double-door in the back. It was shaking violently, and there was a terrible chittering, squeaky, "this is a lot of small bugs" noise coming from behind it. We stood in front of the left-most door, and the guy opened it. Both doors immediately, and forcefully, swung open. We were pushed in an arc along with the opening door, conveniently pushing us into a small recess in the wall where the door blocked us in, and the bugs out. If we had not opened the door just so, the swarm of bugs which left the doorway would have certainly killed us.

Once the bugs were gone, the guy I was following stepped into the room before I could even get around the doorway. Just as the inside room came into my view, the guy had emerged, but... more evil? And with a gross, bug power. He could climb walls, but disgustingly. Like, he would put all four limbs on a wall, and stick there, but in addition to just crawling up the wall, he could also flip his body around, detaching, say, his two legs, which would then swing around and stick to the wall above his two arms.

The guy was extremely happy about this, laughing evily about his new found power, and either how he would use this to defeat the God, or that this was his prize for already having defeated the God, or something.

[edit] Fast Food Place

I wish I could remember the transitions of dreams better. This dream segment thing was much shorter. Me and my family were going to some kind of fast-food place whose advertising point was that their food was like home made food! Katie (in real life, as I was telling her about these dreams) mentioned Boston Market as being such a place. Anyway, we stood in the brass-railing-lined line, and finally ordered some food from the attractive girl behind the register, and then left.

[edit] The End

That's it. I do notice that all three of these dreams had attractive girls for me to potentially get involved with. Which must say something, but what hiding from school administrators, defeating Angry Gods, or a Boston Market-like place have to do with anything, I don't know.

Anyway, back to hanging out with family!
