Detour

What a weird dream!

OK, so I was walking home from school or work or something one day, but instead of taking my usual route I decided to explore the area a little.

This area was nothing like anywhere I can think of in real life, and focused around this particular street which I do not know the name of.

I can remember the street fairly well, as I traversed much of if 3 times:

it slopes slowly downhill for a long time, then sharply turns up, then quickly down again - so there's this steep, short hill at the other end that I'm sure is a driving hazard, since you can't see who's coming from the other direction.

Anyway, I was walking down this street - the slowly downhill part - when I met a couple friends. I can't remember if it was the entire group or not, but it was various people from high school and college. Bryan, Ashley, Raul and Sarah were at least talked about by the people I met, if not among those people themselves. They said that they were going somewhere - I forget how well they described it all. I also don't remember if they invited me along... I kind of think they thought I wouldn't be interested... but I'm pretty sure they wanted me to invite Alexa and a friend of hers when I saw them further up the road - I guess they knew she was behind them. This part is all a little fuzzy to me.

Anyway, so I walked further up, all the way to that hill at the end of the road, but didn't see Alexa or her friend. The road ended (it's a T-shape at the end, where I'm waling up the stalk of the T), so I turned back. On my way down the steep part of that last hill, there was a scene with a bus. Or maybe I already saw the bus... somehow, though, this bus had passed and hit, or rather scraped, a car - or perhaps the car had scraped it. Alexa I think had been driving one of the two vehicles. Apparently my memory is also fuzzy about this scene, but somewhere in here I told Alexa about the get-together, decided I was going along, and Alexa's mom had to deal with the car scrape, which Alexa seemed unconcerned with, but the man in the other vehicle was a bit excited about (excited not-in-a-happy way).

Alexa's family was going to some restaurant that night, but were happy to drive Alexa and her friend (me... what happened to Alexa's other friend? it was some black girl, I think) to this other place. I vaguely remember the layout of the house, at least the bottom floor. And I think her brother told me about the odd locking mechanism on the front door...

Right, okay, so we went out the front door to get in the car, but the dog was having issues - it was apparently going to come along to the restaurant, and just sit in the car, or something - so they decided to go back in the house, but they didn't use the front door, instead we went around to the back. And I thought maybe the front door could not be unlocked, as a sort of tricky defense, but this older brother was telling me that it could be unlocked, but there was something about it... he also told me about their summer house, which had a door lock that managed to not be on the door, but on "the cement", so I imagined that it must be, like, in the sidewalk approaching the house, and I remember envisioning this complex gear-work underneath the ground in order to get the turning motion from the device to the door... but he explained that it was just in the wall next to the door, and that he couldn't break in to it unless the weather was really cold? Something like that.

Anyway, it turned out I was good with their dog, and had to pet it, and then we were able to all hop inside the car.

Hm... this part is the most dream like: the car was much too small to hold us all - and not just because there were a lot of us - but we all got in. But I guess I'll explain more about it later.

WAIT - I remember something else... odd. I think the family and everyone had tried to walk to this place before, because I get the feeling that driving there, I was already familiar with the route, because we had tried it before, except I was surprised this time, because we were driving down all of the paths that I think you should usually only walk down :P dashing by people, and across streets on to other paths, and so on. I remember thinking to myself something like... oh, I forget my exact words, but something about how it might seem strange of them to drive on all these paths, but since they give so much money to the community, it is in fact quite normal.

Among these paths we took included that rocky area on the side of railroad tracks, but this ended up being a problem, and for some reason we got stuck. Alexa and I got out to try and fix the car, and this is also odd... I think she found a little wheel, and I had a little metal pole that was threaded on the end - and these things were so small, like my metal "pole" must have been between 4 and 6 inches, or something - but we screwed her wheel onto the threaded part, and then strung that through a couple little holes in the bottom car (we did this by picking up the car, as it was quite to scale, somehow). Apparently this extra wheel was supposed to help, so we set off again. They started to move immediately after we put the car down, and Alexa hopped in before they got moving quickly, but I wasn't used to this, so I had to run along side them and try to hop in, but didn't do very well at it. Finally they stopped to let me in when we heard the train coming.

A little while later, the car problems didn't end. Alexa and I had some arguments on the best way to fix this, but then I went ahead and just did something, where the extra wheel went straight out in front or back of the car - I forget - so that it was kind of propped up like a motorcycle front wheel. Alexa thought it should actually work quite well, so we got in again, and this time made it to our destination, which was along this same railroad, but under a tunnel, or something, where two railroads crossed, I believe.

I don't remember Alexa after this point, so it's possible she for some reason didn't come, but I'm pretty sure she was supposed to... I did see someone else, though, but I forget who. They popped out of some door in the side of the tunnel, and recognized me. For some reason, though, they weren't going to tell me how to get to where everyone else was. I looked through the door they had come out of, and I saw Brianna and Bryan and a couple other people on... well, the whole scene seemed to be of these massive rocks on a beach, and we were looking out from... what I guess must have been a hole in a cliff? There were other cliff walls to the left and somewhere further to the right of me... so it was like an alcove, or something... anyway, Bryan was there making some kind of crazy music with *tschka* noises and things, and was pleased with himself for being on this rock, which was apparently hard to get to, and he wasn't about to tell anyone else how to get there. Somehow, however, I figured it out for myself, and on the way found the source of the music... thinking on it now, I have absolutely what these were supposed to be, but I don't remember them being so odd to me in the dream. They were textured like finger tips? It's the finger print that seems familiar, but they were solid, hard, black... there wasn't a finger nail or anything, rather the whole thing was "like a fingerprint". Also, I'd say it was... well, smaller than a tennis ball, and not a perfect sphere, more like a seed-shape, but very rounded, not very defined. Anyway, shaking these things made different noises, including that *tschka* noise, and a *beooooww* or something... and I ended up shaking them to make some kind of beat. I ended up finding that rock Bryan was on, and he had heard me play these little black things, and was, in his way, happy for my having done it. I can't explain that part well. It was a very Bryan-like, way which largely includes simultaneously and largely ignoring that I was there at all. Something like "ha, that was actually pretty cool of Ben."

I also recall someone suggesting that Katie would be envious, since I had managed to do all of this... meaning getting to the rock, and I think they meant to refer to me making that music, but I'm not sure.

And this is about where I woke up.
