Different Point of View

Every now and again... maybe, I dunno, once every few months, or something... I'll be in the middle of doing something, and I'm suddenly stricken with this feeling that, like, whatever I'm doing doesn't actually mean anything outside of... I guess... the context of our society? Or something? Like, that under more ordinary or natural circumstances, whatever it is I'm currently doing would be completely alien, and, moreover, useless.

Like, I'm coding PsyPets right now (6:09pm EST, 2006.03.03), and in the middle of typing the line

that point of view struck me again, and it thought "you're typing into a computer... does that mean anything? to anything?", almost like it's a dream... and I finish typing up the line... and, I mean, yeah, it means something. But the point of view has a point: it doesn't mean anything until it's processed by several computer programs, which themselves are meaningless except for their output, which is only meaningful because people look at it and identify it as being so. And I guess that's what that point of view is... the point of view of something removed from that entire process.

I dunno how to describe, and I feel kinda' awkward about it being there, but just... every now and again...

I don't remember the last time it happened, exactly, but I'm going to start recording them here, on this wiki... 'cause it's weird, and I'd be interested to see if there's a pattern, or anything.
