Disturbing Dream

From Telkoth.net

Late yesterday I was in one of those moods where there were so many things I could do, or needed to do, but my brain didn't want to do any of it... nothing sounded good. I was getting sick of it at around 9:00, and finally said "screw it - I'm going to sleep," and got in bed at about 9:30. Probably a good idea anyway, as I tend to get not enough sleep every night.

My brain took full advantage of the extra hours and conjured up one hell of a dream. It's very rarely that I remember my dreams, but strange sleeping conditions will usually trigger it, like sleeping at someone else's place.

So... the dream...

It started in a kind of river... it was a light wood, with a river to my right - we were traveling along it... on either side of the river the terrain sloped up... this kind of "V" shape with a river on the bottom. And, yeah, we were following it on the right side. Who "we" was I'm not quite sure: me and some dream-friends. I don't know what we were doing there, but we were clearly ready for a fight, and sneaking around, etc.

The transition to this next scene is not quite clear... either we were captured, or agreed to go along, maybe 'cause it was part of why we were around, maybe not. I'm really not sure...

We were in a mansion. A big, old, dilapidated, spooky-shadowed mansion. And the lord of this mansion was a vampire. An old, powerful vampire. But all was not well for him. He had a daughter which was not quite a vampire yet? There was to be a big ceremony that night to make her a full-fledged, vampire-princess I-dunno, and for whatever reason we decided we were going to prevent this at all costs. I vaguely recall that she might not have wanted this to happen to her, but it might also have been why we were sneaking around in the first place anyway - again, I'm not sure.

Things get more strange. We were in the vampire-princess's room, and she was basically just lying there in a coffin, essentially, though it was more tight-fitting. Not that she couldn't get out... more of a comfortable-tight-fitting coffin. Anyway, she was out of it, and we were trying to stop the ceremony, but were stuck in the room. The vampire lord guy had minions, of course, and he tried to send in some spirit servant to do us in, since we wouldn't be able to see it. However, I was able to hold out my hand in front of my face, with the fingers running horizontal, and look between the cracks in my fingers, and see the spirit. Like, I had to spread them juuuuuust the right amount, and through my fingers everything had a red color, and I had to shake my hand up and down in order to get a full picture from seeing just through the cracks in my fingers. Anyway, in this way I was able to see the spirit servant come in, and shoo at him to let them know that I could see him and would foil his plans. Apparently this was enough, and the servant left. I also noticed that the spirit couldn't go through walls - he kept coming in through the door. We kept trying to close the door, but it didn't latch, and would swing open, allowing the spirit in. After chasing it out a couple times, I found some rope and started to wrap it around the two door handles in a figure-eight. Once that was done some, I pulled the rope to tighten it, but when I did so the door... I want to say it turned inside out? Somehow it flipped around, but only near the handles themselves, but suddenly I had tied the part outside of the door, and had the rope pulled in through there, and the outside handles were on the inside. Apparently I had pulled too hard. So I started to wrap it around the new set of handles when I noticed that at the top of the door there was a metal bit with a hole in it on one door, so I got a ladder and climbed up and started to tie using that. I don't remember what was on the other door to tie to, but it worked, and I started to tie.

The top of this door was strange. I could look down at an angle into the hallway outside, which went straight out from the doorway. I guess what it is is that the ceiling inside this room was higher up than outside, and there was space between the top of the door and the top of the door frame, so from my angle I could see an amount of space just outside the door.

I saw something that bothered me.

Coming down the hallway was the vampire lord with a couple other guys. I had this immediate realization that he would kick our asses, that no matter how I sealed this door he would just give it a light kick and be in. I relayed my fears to my friends and told them I was giving up. Of course they protested, and were quite angry about it, and we should try to do something, but I was just like "no - he's out-of-control powerful. we lose."

In came vampire lord, took his daughter, left, and we followed, I think because the lord's side-kicks insisted that we should.

What followed was a banquent/feast! We were taken to quite possibly the only beautifully-decorated and lit room in the whole mansion, and lots of guests were there, eating lots of food and socializing and dancing in this golden-bright hall decorated with plants and crystal and everything fancy.

I seem to recall a garden as well, and some other locations... I was far from that sparkly hall when the party ended, my friends were lead away, and the vampire lord came to talk with me. Well, but he didn't really talk, he just led me around the mansion while I wondered what was going to happen to me... was he glad that I gave up when he came, and was going to reward me? Or was he going to "reward me"? By killing me?

We were back to walking through the ruined, shadowed mansion. At one point we passed a random naked woman who was sprawled on the floor (which I can't remember if it was grassy or stone, but I think we were near a lake or large bath, or something), face-down, motionless. I asked the lord, somewhat accusingly, "what happened to her?" He said something that basically meant "I had sex with her 'cause she wanted to," but it was phrased strangely like "she wanted dinner so I went fishing" or something? something with fishing, and somehow him "fishing" got her what she wanted, which wasn't explicity "sex." Anyway, then I asked him "is she dead?" to which he replied "No" in this way that suggested that I was not only rude in having suggested so, but could be killed for suggesting so.

Eventually we came back to a room with dead, leafless plants and night light filtering through the broken ceiling, etc. The vampire lord explained that this was the same room in which we had had the ball - it was mearly all an illusion he created for the event. And I saw that those dead plants were indeed the same as the living ones I had seen before bathed in the light from the hanging chandeliers.

I woke up soon after this point, but not without some memory of computers being situated between plants, and that somehow those had been there during the party as well, and I tried to get on one, or something... I don't know - I woke up. Before my alarm! I should hope so, having gone to bed around 9:30.

Oh! I remember something else. I seem to recall a scene where my friends and I saw the princess walk through a door, and we couldn't see her directly, but the vampire lord was behind her, within our line of sight, and there was this explosion of light and golden-sparkly particle-effect ribbons which strung out from inside, and then it all just kinda' settled away. I assume it was part of the ceremony for it... the surrounding area was definitely the crumbling mansion, so we weren't in the ball room... and I was with my friends... it must have happened on our way from the princess's room to the party hall. I don't remember.

Anyway, that was the dream. Very crazy. Where did vampires come from!? It was certainly more fantastic than most of the dreams I have. Well... more blantantly fantastic.
