Kitties!

Yesterday we got the first of our two kittens, Jordan. He's a small black kitty with a white bit which runs down his nose and around his mouth. He's also got a white tummy, and white paws, and even the hairs on the tip of his tail - what few there are - are white.

We started him off in the bathroom with a litter box and food and water, and watched from the doorway. He was obviously nervous, but we distracted him with some toys, and he explored the bathroom, and eventually ate and used the litter box, which was very reassuring. In a couple hours he willingly approached me, so I pet him and pet him and pet him, and he purred and purred and purred, and things have been pretty good since. He still gets a little scared when either Katie or I walks by, but he's explored the walls of the entire apartment by this point, and regularly ventures into the living room so that he can sit under the folding table there :P He also slept with us last night, which was simultaneously adorable, and annoying, since I'm fairly sure he slept as often as he moved around and wanted to be pet.

Tomorrow we're picking up Chelsea. She's getting spayed today, and they want to give her a night of rest where they can watch her carefully.

Chelsea is a white cat, with odd splotches of that browny/blacky/stripy pattern on her. I can't describe it better than that 'cause she's not sleeping on my lap where I can see her like Jordan is right now :) At the SPCA - where we're getting all these kittens - we were able to put Jordan and Chelsea together in a room, and they didn't hate each other, so I'm hoping they'll get along alright once we get Chelsea here... I don't know how much Jordan will have claimed this place in just a couple days. Chelsea's about a month older than Jordan, at 4 months, and significantly more in control of her body than Jordan has proven to be, so I don't think Jordan would be able to enforce any kind of domination at this point anyway. Anyway, they're both still just kittens, so I'm sure it'll be fine :)
