Kitty Fight

From Telkoth.net

We got Chelsea today, and as I feared things did not go as smoothly as would have been prefered.

When we finally chose Jordan and Chelsea at the SPCA, we wanted to bring them both home at once, but Chelsea needed spaying, and the SPCA people really wanted us to bring home each cat as soon as possible, since they are low on space. They assured us that since it would only be a couple days between getting each kitten, and that since they are both kittens, there shouldn't be too much a problem of getting them to meet.

I think they would have told me anything just to get the cats off their hands. They fought quite a bit when we got Chelsea home. Not too badly, or all the time, but it was making it difficult for Chelsea to explore the apartment and get comfortable, and when she sat down in the litter box for a while, Jordan decided that the down comforter would be just as good a place to pee.

At around 9:00 it was apparent that this wasn't going to work, and I did not much enjoy the idea of waking up in the middle of the night to the sounds of a cat fight or the smells of misplaced defecation, so we (Katie and I) set up another food and water bowl and litter box in the living room/kitchen area and put her there, leaving Jordan with the bathroom and our bedroom, which he is most comfortable in. Tonight we're gonna sleep with Jordan, but in the future, until we have the cats happy with each other, we may sleep separately with each of the cats - there's a futon in the living room which is quite comfortable. [sigh] I'm gonna have to find a good book to read, too, so that when I'm hanging out with Chelsea in the living room - away from my computer - I'll have something the hell to do.

Stupid SPCA... we should have insisted on taking the cats home together. Oh well.
