MAGFest - neat
From Telkoth.net
I went to MAGFest today, and even got in free. My friend Lyle won some kind of radio contest and received two tickets, so he invited me to go along. So that was awesome.
MAGFest itself is pretty cool, and also pretty insane. They've got several large rooms in the Doubletree hotel around here, the largest of which houses more TVs than you can shake a stick at, each hooked up to at least one gaming console. People were playing games from Duck Hunt and Street Fighter 2 to Super Smash Brothers and Half Life 2. There was also a significant amount of Mario Kart (both 64 and that Game Cube version) going on, and amounts of DDR and Guitar Hero, the latter of which is extremely bizarre.
I didn't take as many pictures as I really should have, mainly because they make you sign a thing where you're supposed to get all sorts of permission before making use of any pictures you might take, so I was like "meh, I hate you, fine, I brought my camera for nothing." But I did end up getting one picture, because it made me so happy: a picture of people waving their hands and singing "na, na! na-na-na-na-na na na! Katamari Damacy!" to a rock version of Katamari on the Rocks as performed by I-don't-remember-who.It always amazes me how much people really do love Katamari Damacy - Namco really has to be thrilled about it... I mean, they've made a game that people will crowd-surf to [shakes his head].
Speaking of crowd-surfing, people had a lot of fun during a Mario Brothers 2 remix medley. As the night went on, I'm sure the amount of alcohol in the room increased, so that may have had something to do with it :)
So that was fun, and amusing. I played video games - kinda' like how I play them at home or at Stephen's all the time - and listened to video game remixes - kinda' like how I listen to video game remixes at home or at Stephen's all the time.
It's also going on tomorrow, and I intend to go, but this time with some Magic decks, as there was a group of some magic players in one of the many rooms reserved by MAGFest.
